Episode 13

In the closing remarks, the facilitator links the group’s embodied work back to the mythic symbolism of Persephone, describing her as the cycle of winter and summer, the underworld and life, above and below, light and darkness. The facilitator suggests that Eleusis continues to carry this symbolism into the present, as if the city has been “loaded” with the myth and it keeps returning in different forms across its history; this does not mean accepting what happens, but rather recognising that the city seems to live an ongoing struggle, like Demeter’s persistent fight, again and again. The facilitator then names the tension at the heart of Eleusis today, how the sea can coexist with factories, and frames the city as having become “Demeter,” bearing responsibility for a perpetual battle between life-giving elements and destructive forces. The reflection widens beyond individual experience to include place itself, its geography, energy, mountains, and sea, and how people are profoundly shaped by their environment, while also noting Eleusis’ long history of hosting people who arrived from across Greece. The facilitator closes by inviting each participant to offer one word that captures the feeling or sensation they are leaving with.

F=Facilitator, P=Participant

F: One word each with which you leave here

P: Empathy
