Episode 5

In the role-play debate, the facilitator assigns contrasting characters so participants can embody how different social positions shape attitudes toward air pollution and mobility in Ljubljana. The one participant is taking on the role of an elderly resident, frames public transport as difficult and falls back on car dependency. In contrast, another participant, playing a student, presents cycling as both a green choice and a way of exploring the city, yet she also expresses frustration that pollution undermines this ideal. Her statement that the air she exhales is measured “as if I smoked for 20 years” sharply personalises the issue, shifting the debate from abstract policy to embodied threat and making air pollution feel immediate, cumulative, and physically damaging.
